00:00:03,560 --> 00:00:13,490
she lay by the cool riverbed with sweet

2
00:00:08,849 --> 00:00:13,490
smell of harvest in the air

3
00:00:13,650 --> 00:00:16,359

4
00:00:19,000 --> 00:00:23,210
a man with a purpose and prayer Lord

5
00:00:25,359 --> 00:00:27,539
it's a struggle with

6
00:00:28,210 --> 00:00:30,299
rewards like the rest you're just here

7
00:00:31,539 --> 00:00:32,320
for the right

8
00:00:34,299 --> 00:00:38,339
it's only a question of<font color="

9
00:00:39,320 --> 00:00:42,030

10
00:00:43,340 --> 00:00:46,250

11
00:00:50,030 --> 00:00:53,189
silly of me but my sons in the Navy

12
00:00:54,250 --> 00:00:57,469
<font color="

13
00:00:58,189 --> 00:01:00,209

14
00:01:00,969 --> 00:01:03,439

19
00:01:56,819 --> 00:02:03,340
don't speak<font color="

20
00:02:00,810 --> 00:02:06,090
now let's return to the golden sound of

21
00:02:03,340 --> 00:02:06,090

27
00:02:30,610 --> 00:02:40,570

00:18:48,900 --> 00:18:53,700
I've seen a thousand Artie's get their

189
00:18:51,089 --> 00:18:55,889
guts blown out in France a thousand dyin

190
00:18:53,700 --> 00:18:57,509
ain't the same I never in all my life

191
00:18:55,890 --> 00:18:59,910
had a friend as close as Artie he was

192
00:18:57,509 --> 00:19:03,089
like family<font color="

193
00:18:59,910 --> 00:19:04,800
needs explaining Donny is why you ever

194
00:19:03,089 --> 00:19:06,839
enlisted in the first place

195
00:19:04,799 --> 00:19:08,579
the government said you was essential to

196
00:19:06,839 --> 00:19:11,189
the war effort working right here on

197
00:19:08,579 --> 00:19:14,339
this farm<font color="

198
00:19:11,190 --> 00:19:17,130
that he pleased here well it did was the

199
00:19:14,339 --> 00:19:18,899
proudest day of my life but it was the

200
00:19:17,130 --> 00:19:23,520
way you took off without even as much as

201
00:19:18,900 --> 00:19:26,310
a goodbye to your mother's sister I just

202
00:19:23,519 --> 00:19:27,779
win it<font color="

203
00:19:26,309 --> 00:19:31,470
with Janet Willem on the night you left

204
00:19:27,779 --> 00:19:34,289
is that right well isn't it I just

205
00:19:31,470 --> 00:19:36,509
assumed not talked about now you listen

206
00:19:34,289 --> 00:19:39,269
to me boy you're living under my roof

207
00:19:36,509 --> 00:19:45,029
<font color="

208
00:19:39,269 --> 00:19:48,420
about what I want you to she said she

209
00:19:45,029 --> 00:19:55,849
thought you got to be thinking about

210
00:19:48,420 --> 00:19:55,850
Marian how hard you going

211
00:20:30,229 --> 00:20:41,700
there I'll need your ration stamps Amos

212
00:20:35,298 --> 00:20:45,808
<font color="

213
00:20:41,700 --> 00:20:48,889
comes to two dollars and 52 cents here

214
00:20:45,808 --> 00:20:48,888
let me turn it right

215
00:21:11,669 --> 00:21:16,590
where'd you hit these at the twin

216
00:21:14,500 --> 00:21:21,429
boulders

217
00:21:16,589 --> 00:21:24,730
what a mess Lloyd driving home I ran

218
00:21:21,429 --> 00:21:27,429
into a swarm of locusts how many was not

219
00:21:24,730 --> 00:21:29,889
as bad<font color="

220
00:21:27,429 --> 00:21:36,538
just south of there if this heat doesn't

221
00:21:29,888 --> 00:21:46,269
break I say will life tomorrow probably

222
00:21:36,538 --> 00:21:49,058
famous Oh Donny he's home Hank well dad

223
00:21:46,269 --> 00:21:52,359
your boy Sam hasn't won back any of

224
00:21:49,058 --> 00:21:54,970
those Pacific Islands yet but that don't

225
00:21:52,359 --> 00:21:57,038
mean I haven't chalked up a few personal

226
00:21:54,970 --> 00:21:58,929
victories

227
00:21:57,038 --> 00:22:01,450
your boy sure writes a racy letter

228
00:21:58,929 --> 00:22:03,850
that's for certain the words around that

229
00:22:01,450 --> 00:22:07,569
we'll all be seeing some real action

230
00:22:03,849 --> 00:22:10,808
soon I know you wanted to see me carry

231
00:22:07,569 --> 00:22:15,638
on the family tradition and be a pilot

232
00:22:10,808 --> 00:22:18,190
Amos but I'm sorry Amos I didn't see

233
00:22:15,638 --> 00:22:19,329
<font color="

234
00:22:18,190 --> 00:22:22,149
don't owe me an apology

235
00:22:19,329 --> 00:22:24,129
you just give Sam my best wishes next

236
00:22:22,148 --> 00:22:26,678
time you write - I sure will do that

237
00:22:24,130 --> 00:22:31,630
Amos Kelly you heard anything about

238
00:22:26,679 --> 00:22:34,059
<font color="

239
00:22:31,630 --> 00:22:36,220
fort was a swarm that chewed up 20 acres

240
00:22:34,058 --> 00:22:37,629
over by twin boulders well that adds up

241
00:22:36,220 --> 00:22:40,329
because these hot air currents have been

242
00:22:37,630 --> 00:22:41,980
coming from southern here why there's

243
00:22:40,329 --> 00:22:44,859
been<font color="

244
00:22:41,980 --> 00:22:49,120
in a dozen years how's your supply of

245
00:22:44,859 --> 00:22:50,648
sodium arsenide but average I think we

246
00:22:49,119 --> 00:22:52,058
better get most of it over days this

247
00:22:50,648 --> 00:22:55,768
place and get it loaded onto his

248
00:22:52,058 --> 00:22:59,009
airplane<font color="

249
00:22:55,769 --> 00:23:02,349
you're talking some fancy money Amos

250
00:22:59,009 --> 00:23:06,548
wife gone and Sam overseas I can wait

251
00:23:02,349 --> 00:23:08,678
for my money you see to it today's has

252
00:23:06,548 --> 00:23:13,349
enough arsenide powder to dust every

253
00:23:08,679 --> 00:23:13,350
farm you're about I'll sign bro

254

oh no dad well then you listen to me

257
00:23:47,200 --> 00:23:53,380

258
00:23:51,069 --> 00:23:56,200
run away from a lot of things you can

259
00:23:53,380 --> 00:24:00,010
run away<font color="

260
00:23:56,200 --> 00:24:01,720
job from little worrying our dime you

261
00:24:00,009 --> 00:24:04,539
can even run away from the United States

262
00:24:01,720 --> 00:24:06,309
Navy<font color="

263
00:24:04,539 --> 00:24:09,250
you're going to sign any papers saying

264
00:24:06,309 --> 00:24:11,769
you're too sick to do your work I want

265
00:24:09,250 --> 00:24:13,420

266
00:24:11,769 --> 00:24:19,529
doing around here is all part of the

267
00:24:13,420 --> 00:24:19,529
fight do you understand that yes sir

268
00:24:22,740 --> 00:24:27,490
<font color="

269
00:24:25,119 --> 00:24:28,179
occupying a second axis airfield late

270
00:24:27,490 --> 00:24:30,339
yesterday

271
00:24:28,180 --> 00:24:32,590
now here's Jody agent Warren temper with

272
00:24:30,339 --> 00:24:34,359
the Monroe County farm report while

273
00:24:32,589 --> 00:24:36,819
there's no break inside for our heat

274
00:24:34,359 --> 00:24:39,429
<font color="

275
00:24:36,819 --> 00:24:42,569
Prairie flat area farms and Marysville

276
00:24:39,430 --> 00:24:45,279
vicinity are advised to spring daddy I

277
00:24:42,569 --> 00:24:48,669

278
00:24:45,279 --> 00:24:51,639
just<font color="

279
00:24:48,670 --> 00:24:53,500
cooling down some you know seems like

280
00:24:51,640 --> 00:24:56,890
what what's working at Culloden you know

281
00:24:53,500 --> 00:25:00,750
I'm spending the whole summers locked up

282
00:24:56,890 --> 00:25:00,750
inside all right

283
00:25:01,450 --> 00:25:06,669
you see anyone tell him that then local

284
00:25:03,848 --> 00:25:08,908
spotted around<font color="

285
00:25:06,669 --> 00:25:08,909
a car

286
00:25:22,279 --> 00:25:33,589
but I do you say doctor very sad yeah

287
00:25:27,490 --> 00:25:36,710

289
00:25:36,710 --> 00:25:45,159
defense plant best I paid off my

290
00:25:41,960 --> 00:25:45,159
depression<font color="

291
00:26:01,250 --> 00:26:04,250
huh

292
00:26:07,589 --> 00:26:17,699
when I was off-limits you gonna report

293
00:26:11,670 --> 00:26:21,840
me Johnny I don't see why we can't see

294
00:26:17,700 --> 00:26:26,190
each other little I mean who have to

295
00:26:21,839 --> 00:26:27,869
know daddy I am getting married not yet

296
00:26:26,190 --> 00:26:30,600

298
00:26:30,599 --> 00:26:40,859
here to talk about marriage that's what

299
00:26:33,869 --> 00:26:48,659
you say now Danny I thought we meant

300
00:26:40,859 --> 00:26:54,979
something to<font color="

301
00:26:48,660 --> 00:26:54,980
everything all I want

302
00:26:59,480 --> 00:27:05,720
hey now you have grease all over your

303
00:27:03,539 --> 00:27:08,119
face

304
00:27:05,720 --> 00:27:10,500
it's a deal

305
00:27:08,119 --> 00:27:18,679
I'm just trying to fix this compressor

306
00:27:10,500 --> 00:27:18,680
so it can dust the awfully important

307
00:27:56,299 --> 00:28:05,099
<font color="

308
00:28:01,009 --> 00:28:09,869
let's get those shoes off I don't ever

309
00:28:05,099 --> 00:28:13,819

310
00:28:09,869 --> 00:28:17,519

311
00:28:13,819 --> 00:28:21,349
Donny is just someone who kept having to

312
00:28:17,519 --> 00:28:24,599
<font color="

313
00:28:21,349 --> 00:28:33,539
sound like being immature well if it is

314
00:28:24,599 --> 00:28:41,129
is that such a terrible thing we're not

315
00:28:33,539 --> 00:28:49,409
all running on the same schedule like

316
00:28:41,130 --> 00:28:51,540
cloth Thomas low another's run fat yet

317
00:28:49,410 --> 00:28:55,980
everybody's always wanting the right

318
00:28:51,539 --> 00:28:59,099
time I never fall is it like that you be

319
00:28:55,980 --> 00:29:02,420
patient honey Donny's going to give

320
00:28:59,099 --> 00:29:04,769
everybody what's expected of him

321
00:29:02,420 --> 00:29:07,650
everybody wants him to be as strong as

322
00:29:04,769 --> 00:29:12,660
daddy daddy wants that too and it just

323
00:29:07,650 --> 00:29:15,000
don't seem fair<font color="

324
00:29:12,660 --> 00:29:16,769
ice cream why don't you get out of those

325
00:29:15,000 --> 00:29:19,220
wet clothes and go round up your father

326
00:29:16,769 --> 00:29:19,220
Donny

327
00:30:16,929 --> 00:30:33,890

328
00:30:21,950 --> 00:30:43,909

329
00:30:33,890 --> 00:30:49,899

330
00:30:43,909 --> 00:30:49,899
for a good cause me

331
00:30:50,509 --> 00:30:57,528
sure I'm a good cause I'm sure I know

332
00:30:55,249 --> 00:31:00,368
exactly what happened that wouldn't

333
00:30:57,528 --> 00:31:00,368
change how I feel

334
00:31:04,589 --> 00:31:08,579
I had this friend I met down at

335
00:31:06,119 --> 00:31:12,599
Pensacola party

336
00:31:08,579 --> 00:31:14,639
<font color="

337
00:31:12,599 --> 00:31:16,759
buddies you know I mean I never had a

338
00:31:14,640 --> 00:31:20,040
bad cold

339
00:31:16,759 --> 00:31:21,559
he was gonna be a veterinary like Lloyd

340
00:31:20,039 --> 00:31:24,149
hub

341
00:31:21,559 --> 00:31:24,919
Meehan we both therefore solos in the

342
00:31:24,150 --> 00:31:34,360
same day

343
00:31:24,920 --> 00:31:38,259
you wrote me about<font color="

344
00:31:34,359 --> 00:31:41,750
Marty took off on absol

345
00:31:38,259 --> 00:31:43,929
and I was there waiting for him he come

346
00:31:41,750 --> 00:31:43,929
back

347
00:31:45,700 --> 00:31:52,090
don't sudden I just blew up

348
00:31:54,359 --> 00:31:57,569
and iron

349
00:32:00,099 --> 00:32:03,969
playing flying through the air

350
00:32:07,000 --> 00:32:13,390
and I am sorry

351
00:32:17,609 --> 00:32:20,609
Tawney

352
00:32:21,390 --> 00:32:32,590
so I went out and I got drunk and I

353
00:32:28,750 --> 00:32:34,690
started<font color="

354
00:32:32,589 --> 00:32:39,339
yeah I never finished it they wiped up

355
00:32:34,690 --> 00:32:41,590
the floor with me fingers why would you

356
00:32:39,339 --> 00:32:43,059
want to start a fight I wanted to go

357
00:32:41,589 --> 00:32:44,619
back and stop parties done but I

358
00:32:43,059 --> 00:32:46,089
couldn't hit<font color="

359
00:32:44,619 --> 00:32:46,750
like it was some kind of Section eight

360
00:32:46,089 --> 00:32:49,449
or something

361
00:32:46,750 --> 00:32:50,829
what's that section eight what they call

362
00:32:49,450 --> 00:32:55,630
it when a fella goes to pieces in the

363
00:32:50,829 --> 00:32:57,899
service I ain't sure I was all like

364
00:32:55,630 --> 00:32:57,900
crazy

365
00:32:58,920 --> 00:33:04,180
well he wasn't art he's dying both I

366
00:33:02,710 --> 00:33:09,130
hauled off<font color="

367
00:33:04,180 --> 00:33:13,900
to prove I wasn't scared too scared to

368
00:33:09,130 --> 00:33:16,110
get back into a plane I thought the Navy

369
00:33:13,900 --> 00:33:18,460
could force you to fly if they wanted to

370
00:33:16,109 --> 00:33:28,199
yeah a what they wanted me to fly again

371
00:33:18,460 --> 00:33:28,200

445
00:39:50,099 --> 00:39:55,200
<font color="

446
00:39:52,019 --> 00:39:58,858
not blaming two stainless in the Bible

447
00:39:55,199 --> 00:40:01,739
in Exodus but they covered the face of

448
00:39:58,858 --> 00:40:04,710
the whole earth so the land was darkened

449
00:40:01,739 --> 00:40:07,879
and they did eat every herb of the land

450
00:40:04,710 --> 00:40:15,179
and<font color="

451
00:40:07,880 --> 00:40:15,750
through all the land of Egypt speaking

452
00:40:15,179 --> 00:40:20,818
for myself

453
00:40:15,750 --> 00:40:24,420
this one won't and we hope for most of

454
00:40:20,818 --> 00:40:26,579

459
00:40:36,260 --> 00:40:42,329
either paying off a new harvester

460
00:40:39,199 --> 00:40:45,348
rebuilding after a flood you come

461
00:40:42,329 --> 00:40:49,230
<font color="

462
00:40:45,349 --> 00:40:51,660
you pay our debts maybe sometimes a

463
00:40:49,230 --> 00:40:53,990
little late but we pay them cash money

464
00:40:51,659 --> 00:40:57,000
the land always comes through for

465
00:40:53,989 --> 00:40:58,308
weather to keep us alive or bury our

466
00:40:57,000 --> 00:41:01,260
dead

467
00:40:58,309 --> 00:41:07,400
no man can forget that because of some

468
00:41:01,260 --> 00:41:07,400

Amos we don't get some rain with a

558
00:52:44,798 --> 00:52:48,400

559
00:52:45,369 --> 00:52:57,509

ace and Sam it's hard to accept no leave

563
00:53:39,949 --> 00:53:45,710

564
00:53:43,420 --> 00:53:49,579
thought maybe she'd stay in the root

565
00:53:45,710 --> 00:53:54,769
cellar if the locusts do come and

566
00:53:49,579 --> 00:53:56,809
probably me best I'd sure welcome one

567
00:53:54,769 --> 00:53:59,800
<font color="

568
00:53:56,809 --> 00:53:59,799

572
00:56:06,789 --> 00:56:11,380

573
00:56:08,440 --> 00:56:16,230
graves didn't make her run your a lot

574
00:56:11,380 --> 00:56:20,640
don't I heard how he's killed himself I

575
00:56:16,230 --> 00:56:20,639

00:56:22,570 --> 00:56:27,340
daddy ain't you ever been lonely scared

577
00:56:25,780 --> 00:56:29,980
I mean really frightened to something a

578
00:56:27,340 --> 00:56:33,760
man don't tolerate the consequences of

579
00:56:29,980 --> 00:56:34,480
fear you ran out of<font color="

580
00:56:33,760 --> 00:56:37,120
to death

581
00:56:34,480 --> 00:56:38,530
figure on dine only once can you say the

582
00:56:37,119 --> 00:56:40,779
same maybe you just don't grieve about

583
00:56:38,530 --> 00:56:42,940
things or feel about him the way I do or

584
00:56:40,780 --> 00:56:46,090
the way ace must have felt about Sam do

585
00:56:42,940 --> 00:56:48,579
you<font color="

586
00:56:46,090 --> 00:56:51,550
probably do you'd do anything to keep

587
00:56:48,579 --> 00:56:53,199
from taking a few bumps even suicide

588
00:56:51,550 --> 00:56:56,050
which is just another way of running

589
00:56:53,199 --> 00:56:59,469
ain't that right Donny well ain't it you

590
00:56:56,050 --> 00:57:02,110

591
00:56:59,469 --> 00:57:03,549

592
00:57:02,110 --> 00:57:06,730

593
00:57:03,550 --> 00:57:09,250
back off shut your eyes stick your head

594
00:57:06,730 --> 00:57:10,929

595
00:57:09,250 --> 00:57:13,960
your best friend get blown up ain't just

596
00:57:10,929 --> 00:57:16,119

597
00:57:13,960 --> 00:57:18,340
seem to keep forgetting that everybody

598
00:57:16,119 --> 00:57:19,929
else around here seems to forget it you

599
00:57:18,340 --> 00:57:22,809

give it a chance

603
00:57:25,599 --> 00:57:30,099
maybe I got different ideas about the

604
00:57:27,489 --> 00:57:34,149

feel to the park

628
00:59:53,190 --> 01:00:03,789

635
01:02:04,650 --> 01:02:14,329
yeah that's our place he's burning the

636
01:02:10,230 --> 01:02:14,329
fields she crazy

637
01:02:18,559 --> 01:02:21,309
can't go

638
01:02:22,409 --> 01:02:25,670
<font color="

639
01:03:03,409 --> 01:03:11,940
all right all you had to do was let him

640
01:03:08,039 --> 01:03:13,889
see you smile just once you mean put my

641
01:03:11,940 --> 01:03:15,869
personal seal of approval on his

642
01:03:13,889 --> 01:03:19,139
behavior in the name what do you really

643
01:03:15,869 --> 01:03:22,529
know about that I know how any man would

644
01:03:19,139 --> 01:03:28,109
<font color="

645
01:03:22,530 --> 01:03:29,490
you expect of me it's too late you

646
01:03:28,110 --> 01:03:33,150
doesn't run him off

647
01:03:29,489 --> 01:03:35,219
he did his own running Clara god only

648
01:03:33,150 --> 01:03:37,860
knows he's had enough practicing and

649
01:03:35,219 --> 01:03:40,589
enough reason when was the last time you

650
01:03:37,860 --> 01:03:42,240
said something<font color="

651
01:03:40,590 --> 01:03:44,670
who's too generous with his praise

652
01:03:42,239 --> 01:03:46,829
cheapen does that mean being too

653
01:03:44,670 --> 01:03:51,539
generous with your love cheapens that -

654
01:03:46,829 --> 01:03:53,340
don't go twisting my words when Cissy

655
01:03:51,539 --> 01:03:56,849
got scared and<font color="

656
01:03:53,340 --> 01:03:58,170
right enough you showed her your love

657
01:03:56,849 --> 01:04:03,119
and understanding

658
01:03:58,170 --> 01:04:05,490
you don't even it's done you're

659
01:04:03,119 --> 01:04:08,250
comparing a 14 year old girl with a

660
01:04:05,489 --> 01:04:11,509
grown man Claire does that mean a man

661
01:04:08,250 --> 01:04:14,849
doesn't need<font color="

662
01:04:11,510 --> 01:04:24,090
forgiveness does that mean you don't

663
01:04:14,849 --> 01:04:26,819
need those things - all right all right

664
01:04:24,090 --> 01:04:29,870
I'm sorry it's just hard for a man to

665
01:04:26,820 --> 01:04:29,870
admit he scared

666
01:04:34,139 --> 01:04:41,719
did you hear what I said there I heard

667
01:04:39,480 --> 01:04:41,719
Jane

668
01:04:43,940 --> 01:04:53,989
Hampsten says they no man can outwit a

669
01:04:46,849 --> 01:04:56,289
swarm of locusts no man that's all I am

670
01:04:53,989 --> 01:04:56,289
plur

671
01:05:19,369 --> 01:05:24,099
he burned the whole south field I could

672
01:05:21,980 --> 01:05:27,949
smell the fire even in the root cellar

673
01:05:24,099 --> 01:05:31,548
yeah locusts wiped down about a third of

674
01:05:27,949 --> 01:05:32,899
the rest of the crop<font color="

675
01:05:31,548 --> 01:05:36,588
just walking around sort of taking

676
01:05:32,900 --> 01:05:40,400
inventory dad thinks you're gone for

677
01:05:36,588 --> 01:05:48,858
good I must have picked up the spirit

678
01:05:40,400 --> 01:05:52,068
some men are peculiar what while you

679
01:05:48,858 --> 01:05:54,230
were writing home he sat and read those

680
01:05:52,068 --> 01:06:02,449
letters to himself<font color="

681
01:05:54,230 --> 01:06:07,248
again every night Donny before my

682
01:06:02,449 --> 01:06:09,308
discharge you know what I think I think

683
01:06:07,248 --> 01:06:15,639
he just mad at you because you're a boy

684
01:06:09,309 --> 01:06:20,019
his son don't make no sense yes it does

685
01:06:15,639 --> 01:06:27,139
<font color="

686
01:06:20,018 --> 01:06:31,399
brave honest he loves you so much Donny

687
01:06:27,139 --> 01:06:36,230
that he wants to be even better and when

688
01:06:31,400 --> 01:06:38,528
you're not he gets sad and he starts

689
01:06:36,230 --> 01:06:44,480
worrying that he's done something wrong

690
01:06:38,528 --> 01:06:45,199
and bringing you up I'm there get on

691
01:06:44,480 --> 01:06:49,210
<font color="

692
01:06:45,199 --> 01:06:49,210
and don't tell that I'm here all right

693
01:07:42,900 --> 01:07:54,990
they'll come again he'll come with a

694
01:07:52,690 --> 01:07:54,990
slump

695
01:08:07,579 --> 01:08:13,670
that's done got to be done

696
01:09:14,890 --> 01:09:17,640
oh yeah

697
01:11:24,269 --> 01:11:27,050
damn

698
01:12:55,500 --> 01:12:58,500
cool

699
01:13:12,939 --> 01:13:20,699
he ran

700
01:13:15,890 --> 01:13:22,970
we keep in time to the seasons of the

701
01:13:20,699 --> 01:13:22,970
Sun

702
01:13:23,488 --> 01:13:33,949
now you<font color="

703
01:13:28,770 --> 01:13:33,950
days have left he won by a war

704
01:13:35,118 --> 01:13:37,958
or did the guru

705
01:13:38,510 --> 01:13:44,710
or you must strike with your flesh and

706
01:13:42,139 --> 01:13:44,710
your pride

707
01:13:45,189 --> 01:13:51,368
will be broken<font color="
